People often ask me if I’ve recorded any more pieces by Billy Mayerl, apart from the ones on my ‘Loose Elbows’ disc. I’ve now recorded some new tracks, which you can buy here. If people like them, I’ll be recording more. These recordings are not the glossy product of a studio – I made them in my living-room at home, playing my own piano. This is where I do most of my playing, and I thought it would be nice to have a more homely atmosphere on these recordings.
Billy Mayerl was the celebrated pianist at the Savoy Hotel in London in the 1920s. His piano music captured the hearts of many listeners during his lifetime. I love it and have always thought it deserves a wider audience today.
