‘Out of Silence’ available on Kindle

18th April 2013 | Books | 5 comments

The Boydell Press writes to say that my book ‘Out of Silence’ is now available on Kindle. It seems to have leaped straight from hardback to Kindle without going through the paperback stage. Everything is changing!

Details of the Kindle edition are here.

I feel slightly like the tortoise being overtaken by the hare, as I don’t own a Kindle and have never read a book on one. But never mind! Perhaps there will be a whole new audience for the book.

Hmmm, I’ve enjoyed your other writings, Susan, and I may just purchase ‘Out of Silence’ in hardback the next time I’m in the English speaking world. Then again I may wait until I find a lovely old dusty copy in the ‘Music’ section of a 2nd hand bookshop at some unknown date in the future. One thing is for sure though, I will not be buying it on Kindle (or the Kindle that I would need in order to read it!)

Oh, James. ‘Meet the future!’ as Butch Cassidy said when he brought a bicycle to show Etta and the Sundance Kid.

I should point out that it’s not essential to buy a Kindle to read a Kindle book. One can download the software from Amazon and read it on other types of computer and smartphone. Also, Out of Silence will soon be available on other platforms, such as Kobo and OverDrive, for those who don’t want to source this lovely book from Amazon.

Amazon offers an option to say “I’d like this book on Kindle” – perhaps this is the outcome! I’m delighted to be able to get this on my electronic devices. It’s also available through Kobo, at a lower price.

“Out of Silence” is now available on the U.S. Amazon site:

As noted above, the “Kindle” version is readable on any computer. I do not have a Kindle, but I have “Kindle for PC” installed on two computers (one a netbook). There is no charge for setting this up.

I look forward to reading the book.
